Coping of Young Refugees in Germany

Abstract. Background: Coping is considered to have an important influence on well-being, especially in adolescent refugees dealing with a high amount of stress. In addition, gender differences coping are common topic for research and often attributed socialization between boys girls. Aims: The study aims at clarifying the strategies used by non-Western adolescents. Additionally, associations aspects socialization, particular Gender Role Attitudes (GRA), investigated. Method: Refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan ( N = 106, 55% male) aged 11–18 years completed questionnaires schools or housing facilities. Associations gender, GRA, strategies, well-being were investigated using moderation regression analyses. Results: found previous literature could, part be replicated. Refugee girls reported more anger-related emotion regulation than did. However, GRA did not show any connections strategies. Limitations: Most limitations result low reliabilities possible biases due use self-reports. Conclusion: frequent as only difference replicated this highlights importance refugee samples prevent over-generalization results Western cultures.
